A group of globetrotting Texans, dedicated to delivering steak to troops, have cooked for servicemen at RAF Lossiemouth.
Harvey Gough from Dallas forged an alliance with colleagues and started serving meals for American troops after being shocked by the 9/11 attacks on the United States in 2001.
Over 700 RAF personnel in Moray patiently queued up to get juicy slabs of steak prepared with gusto by the Americans on a barbecue.
Lossiemouth base warrant officer Kev Hastie said: “What this team do is amazing. Under normal circumstances, they give up their own time and their expense for US troops who are serving around the world.
“To deviate from the norm and provide for RAF Lossiemouth personnel is most gratifying. What they have done is no small task and the background work was intense, but the end result was worth all the effort.
“Bringing a large proportion of the station along when we are so busy was always going to be a big task, but the offer of a Texan steak, prepared and cooked by real Texans, was enough to see 750 personnel venture out.”
A chance encounter between Mr Gough and Lossiemouth station commander Paul Godfrey led to an invite for the Americans to travel north. When they arrived, a makeshift galley was set up outdoors for the occasion with rows of tables.
Mr Gough added: “The Steak Team Mission has travelled to many locations all over the world and each one has its own mark of satisfaction.
“Delivering this mission to the personnel at RAF Lossiemouth has been marked as one of our top missions to date.
